Bye Bye Baby Food [Jaxson] — Stephanie @

Jaxson has decided that he likes solids now more than baby food, which I am very pleased with.  Baby food is expensive!  It’s so fun watching him try new things and then decide that he likes them and gobbles it right down.

? Walking [Family Stuff] — Stephanie @

I’m not sure if I can say that Jaxson is walking or not.  Does it count if he has taken 3 steps on his own?  I saw him take 2 steps on his own on Friday night when we were eating supper on our deck with Tanya and Heath and of course I was the only one that saw it.  Then on Saturday morning Brad woke me up to tell me that Jaxson had taken 3 steps.  I think he will be off to the races in no time.

This weekend was pretty laid back and nice.  We had such beautiful weather so we tried to get outside and enjoy it.  Tanya and Heath came over for supper on Friday.  Brad grilled a pork loin for us and made some sweet corn.  It was all wonderful and it was fun just sitting outside and talking.  Of course we talked about their upcoming wedding in October, so that got us talking about our wedding, which will be almost 4 years ago already in September.  So we got out our tapes from our wedding, reception, and our slideshow of pictures to show Heath.  I think he got a few laughs from watching Tanya at our reception.  Don’t worry Heath, I’m sure she won’t be as silly at her own wedding.

On Saturday we were pretty lazy around the house.  We did some shopping in the morning and then headed to Champps for supper.  We got to sit outside on their patio and enjoyed a nice evening.  Jaxson of course enjoyed dancing to their music in the high chair and also loved my breadstick; he ate almost the whole thing.  After eating, we went for a walk around the pond at Jordan Creek.  Out of all the times that we’ve been out there shopping and eating, we have never really looked at the pond, fountains and waterfalls that they have.  It is absolutely beautiful!  Jaxson loved it because he got to sit and watch the geese swim and peck at the people that were feeding them.  He also loved watching the fountains shoot water in the air.  I think we will probably be going out there more often to enjoy the beautiful scenery.

This morning we got up and went to church.  It was quite entertaining with the kids from VBS singing some pretty hip songs and then the church staff threw about 15 giant beach balls into the congregation that got tossed around.  I tell you. . . we never know what the church service is going to be like, but I’ll always guarantee that it will be entertaining, you will remember the message, and it will impact your life in some way.  And that is a summary of our weekend.  I hope everyone has a great week!

YUMMMM Bananas [Jaxson] — Stephanie @

Jaxson had a messy afternoon snack with a banana.  The pictures don’t do the mess justice.  He had bananas hanging off his eyebrow, nose, and chin.  It was pretty cute.  After supper tonight, Jaxson and I headed out to the Valley Junction farmer’s market.  Jaxson loves going because he gets to ride in his stroller and watch all of the people with their dogs.  He even managed to get some dancing in while we sat and listened to the live band.  We did buy some sweet corn and we shared a watermelon sno-cone.

11 Months [Family Stuff] — Stephanie @

Every month is passing by so quickly!  We can’t believe that we are going to be celebrating Jaxson’s first birthday in one month.  Where does the time go?  We haven’t been up to anything too exciting these past few days.  I’ve been trying to get out of the house more during the day; it seems that Jaxson behaves better if we’re out and about, so we’ve been going shopping for party supplies and just walking around the mall.  It seems that if we’re at home all day all I do is say "no Jaxson" and chase him away from things he shouldn’t be getting into.  Jaxson’s new favorite thing to do is dance.  He loves music and he’s got a lot of moves to go with it.  It is the cutest and funniest thing I’ve ever seen.  Yesterday, I brought his Cubs chair downstairs to the living room and he climbed right up on it, stood up, and started dancing on it.  It was so funny.  We’ve got quite the entertainer on our hands.

Fun in the Pool [Jaxson] — Stephanie @

I finally got Jaxson’s pool out today after seeing the forecast for the next few days.  Looks like it’s going to be another 5-7 days of hot weather and I thought that would give the boys something fun to do over the weekend.  Grandma Pam got this super cute pool for Jaxson and as you can see he absolutely loves it.

This Week at the Cathcarts [Family Stuff] — Stephanie @

Brad’s week started off interesting by serving on jury duty.  He did get picked for a trial and luckily it only lasted two days.  They found the guy guilty yesterday, so Brad is now back to work.  Jaxson and I have been running errands and working on getting things ready for two upcoming big parties.  I am hosting a bridal shower and bachelorette party for my sister on Aug. 11th and then we’re having Jaxson’s 1st Birthday party the next day.  Yes, I know that’s crazy, but when I only have one weekend off a month, I really don’t have a choice on when to do things. Jaxson and I spent some time outside today enjoying the "cooler" weather.  At least it’s not in the 80’s or 90’s.  We went to the park and then played in our front yard with his new walk and ride toy.  He loves this thing and can zoom all over the house by walking behind it.  He gets quite upset when he runs into something and can’t go any farther.

Happy Belated 4th of July! [Family Stuff] — Stephanie @

I hope everyone enjoyed the 4th!  We started our celebration on Tuesday evening when we headed up to Gowrie for the town’s festivities.  That evening we went to a party that was at one of Brad’s friend’s house so he got a chance to catch up with some of his friends.  Then Brad and Andy headed off to the street dance while Mindy and I headed back to the house because we were too hot and getting eaten alive by the bugs.  Wednesday we went to Gowrie’s parade.  They always have a wonderful parade and is topped off with a flyover with 3 fighter planes.  That always gives me the goosebumps because it is so neat.  Jaxson enjoyed his first parade and we were all surprised that he didn’t cry once with all of the loud horns and the cars revving their engines.  That afternoon Kris, Jaxson, and I hopped in Jaxson’s pool to cool down and the boys hopped in the hot tub.  Yes, they got in the hot tub in 80 degree weather.  No, I don’t know what they were thinking.  We skipped out on a big fireworks show this year since it was way past Jaxson’s bedtime and we thought that he wouldn’t be too fond of the loud booming, although we did see about 3 fireworks from the end of our driveway and he seemed to be fine with them.  We got home in time for us to unpack and then repack for our trip to Hubbard.

Jaxson and I headed up to Hubbard on Thursday morning while Brad went back to work.  When we got to my mom’s, Grandma and Aunt Wendy were also there to greet us.  It was nice spending time with them as always.  That evening we went up and saw my dad and Brenda. They got to see how Jaxson loves to point at everything and how he likes to walk with help.  Then we went out to a farm where Brandon has been roping cattle.  I had never seen him rope before so that was fun to watch.  Jaxson even got to ride the horse with Brandon.  He didn’t seem scared at all; he was pretty expressionless.  He also enjoyed playing with the dogs and cat that were there.
This morning my mom, Jaxson, and I went out to my friend Jill’s house to see her and her dad, Gene.  My friend, Erika, and her family also came out.  Jill, Erika, and I have been friends since we were very little and now Erika lives in Austin, TX and Jill just moved to Rochester, MN, so we had to get together and drink wine at 10:30 this morning.  We were trying to think of when all 3 of us were together last and we think it was at my wedding, which was almost 4 years ago.  It’s crazy to think that that is possible when we were pretty much inseparable growing up.  We had a great time watching the kids play and catching up.  Jaxson and Barrett, who just turned 1 in June, played very well together.  Jaxson seemed to follow Barrett wherever he went, it was so cute.  We just wish that we were closer so that they could spend more time together.  That pretty much wraps up our weeklong celebration of the 4th.  It’s off to work for me tomorrow and Brad is going to have some father-son time before heading off to the I-Cubs game tomorrow night.

Lions, Tigers and Bears Oh My! [Jaxson] — Stephanie @

Jaxson took his first trip to the zoo today.  We were invited to go by my friend and co-worker, Stephenie and her two kids, Ethan (8) and Brooklyn (3).  We had a great time and Jaxson was so well behaved.  I haven’t been to the Blank Park Zoo since I was in grade school when we went on a field trip, so I was pretty excited to go also.  Jaxson’s favorite things were the giraffes and the monkeys.  He kept pointing and laughing at the giraffes and wanted to keep watching them, but we had to keep moving.  We also checked out the zoo’s exhibit "The Scoop on Poop," which was pretty funny, gross, and educational.  I learned that an elephant eats 400 lbs of food a day and can poop my weight in 6 hours!

We’re getting ready to take the train ride.

Weekend Events [Family Stuff] — Stephanie @

Brad and Jaxson went back to Gowrie for the weekend so that Brad could participate in the annual Firecracker 40, which is a 40 mile bikeride that starts in Gowrie and goes to some of the surrounding towns.  He’s done it for the past several years and always has fun.  Jaxson spent the whole day with Grandma Kris.  They took a walk and played in the pool and from what I hear they had a lot of fun.  I guess Grandma taught him how to really splash in the water with his legs, so now bathtime gets to be pretty wet and wild. Thanks Kris!  That was my first night away from Jaxson since he was born and I have to admit that I coped just fine.  I treated myself to some chocolate and wine and I got to relax.

Work went very well this weekend.  Our new residents started, which is always fun.  All they did was round with the older residents, which I was glad about.  I don’t like dealing with the new ones because they just don’t know what they’re doing or they go to the other extreme and think they know everything. OK, I know that’s what they’re there for, is to learn, but it gets to be pretty annoying. I better get off of my soap box on this topic.
